If you want the shortcut:
If you want go depth and breadth:
The real purpose of the assessment is not as the people think, get a grade nor know who is the better in a subject. The
purpose of the Assessment is allow the teacher know what the student
have learned and demonstrate it. The
Assessment allow the teacher know if their strategies of
teaching are working with the students in order to get the learning objectives.
Every school need a new approach of assessment, because they only use the assessment to give to the students grades trying to show them about their knowledge, but today our classroom are very different of the classroom when the strategies for assessment were done.
As the book Assessment accommodations for classroom teachers of culturally and linguistically diverse students say on page 4: Most radically changing is the number of students that we refer in this text as culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD). For the CLDs the assessment can't be same as for the native students because may be that the CLD students are learning the new culture and language, of course their develop in the class isn't going to be as a native student that has all the language and the resources to achieve a successful learning.
But as it was in the Differentiated Instruction One size doesn't fit all, today we have English Language Learners (ELLs) as part of this CLD students because the immigrant number of children has being increasing along the years.
In order to get an Authentic assessment the methods that we normally use are out of date, not only because today our classrooms are different but the children, the students, everyone is a different world of each other.
Now we know about the intelligences of each person, that allows them learn in a better way that others and in this same way they can demonstrate what they have learned in class.
However the assessment is more than tests at the end of a course or a semester, we can find at least 3 different kinds of assessment:
- Assessment Pre-instructional
- Interaction, Application and Accommodation.
- Evaluation.
- The Assessment Pre-instructional can be used in many ways but normally it consist in ask the students before the Instruction, this allows the teacher know what background knowledge have the students also this give the teacher a point to start with the lesson and a map for where to go.
- Interaction, application and accommodation is a kind of assessment that usually takes place during the lesson, this kind of assessment offer a great variety of formal and informal applications in the practice of learning, also this assessment provide the students the opportunities that they need to interact in class, to build language in the case of the CLD's.
- Evaluation, this assessment sounds like the normal assessment but we can take it to another place, as example we can use the grades only to enhance the learning, to apply the evaluation we should be focused only in the critical concepts looking the whole picture of the interests and needs of the students.
The differentiated instruction has the same goal, make every student successful with their learning process, and we need to begin in the same way, discovering our students: to the CLD students we are going to use a strategy focused in the student and it is Student Biography, also we need to compound with the Prism Model to involve all the aspects of the student in their learning process.
We can use the same model than in Differentiated Instruction, the Gardner's Multiple Intelligences but for that you can go here.
We have more ways of applying an authentic assessment to the CLDs and ELLs as an example that the technology gave us is the rubric, but what this means?
A Rubric is a series of parameters that are going to be assess to the student and he/she must comply this parameters to get the knowledge of the activity or theme.

You have nicely synthesized the learning and expressed it well here in this section. Congratulations
